Carbon mineralisation is a natural process in which CO2 reacts with rocks to form stable carbonates. This reaction occurs over geological timescales and currently removes ~0.3Gt of CO2 annually.
With engineered processes, operating at economically acceptable rates, carbon mineralisation technologies could capture multi-Gt CO2/year, to slow and even reverse the accumulation of CO2 in the atmosphere. The NetCarb Technology accelerates the natural process by ~100 million times, providing a much more economically attractive pathway to large scale capture and storage of CO2.
NetCarb Technology uses thermally activated ultramafic rocks in a CO2 pH swing reactor configured to operate at near ambient pressure and temperature conditions. The process secures large quantities of CO2 (~0.3t CO2/t rock), whilst generating valuable byproducts.
NetCarb Technology provides a simple, commercially viable, and scalable carbonation solution using readily available industrial equipment.
Commercially viable CO2 storage, and even removal from the atmosphere, creates opportunities in the energy, power, chemical, mining, agricultural and building materials industries. This also has a flow on effect to the hydrogen and biofuel economies.
NetCarb is dedicated to making our world better by taking actions and decisions that reduce carbon emissions, promote sustainable practices, and encourage technological advancements to create a more resilient and habitable planet for future generations.
