With experience across technology development, operational and business leadership and consulting within the global mining industry, Tony is an accomplished senior Executive and Innovator.

After his Ph.D., he progressed through various R&D and operational leadership roles becoming Managing Director for Rio Tinto’s aluminium smelting assets. Tony then contributed to shaping the strategy of the aluminium and phosphate sectors in Saudi Arabia and served as VP Technology for Vale in Canada and Brazil.

Tony’s business and technical experience is indicated by the extensive Board memberships roles through his career, including Director of Comalco Aluminium Limited and its subsidiary operational Boards (Bell Bay, New Zealand, and Boyne Island Aluminium Smelters). He was a Director for Vale Inco Technical Services Limited and currently plays an important role in the Ambatovy Technical Review Board.

Over the last 15 years, Tony’s innovative spirit has identified scalable and transformative technologies that integrate economic benefits with environmental stewardship across the mining industry. This is evident through his registered patents covering heap leaching, coarse flotation, dry tailings storage, bulk sorting, mobile mining, and carbon sequestration. Most of these patented technologies are now either in commercial operation or undergoing large-scale prototype trials.
